The Living Areas

Living and reception areas in a luxury villa are among the most visible spaces and typically contain the most varied mix of materials: upholstered furniture, polished wood or stone floors, display items, artwork, mirrors, and electronic equipment. Each of these requires a specific approach. Upholstered seating benefits from regular vacuuming of all surfaces — including under cushions, in crevices between arms and seat, and on the underside of seat bases where dust accumulates unseen. Fabric types vary: a chenille or velvet fabric needs a different attachment and motion than a woven or leather surface. Where the fabric is delicate, testing any cleaning product on an unseen area before use is an important precaution. Polished stone or hardwood floors are sensitive to the wrong products. pH-neutral, diluted cleaners are generally appropriate for sealed natural stone; excess water should be avoided, as standing moisture can damage grout and, in the case of wood, cause warping or discolouration over time. A thorough clean includes moving furniture to address areas that are normally covered. Artwork and display items require care. Dust settling on picture frames, sculptures, or decorative objects should be removed with appropriate tools — soft natural-bristle brushes or dedicated microfibre dusters — rather than damp cloths that can damage surfaces or leave marks. Electronics gather dust particularly in vents and on cable runs; cleaning these with dry, anti-static methods prevents dust from becoming a functional issue as well as an aesthetic one. Mirrors and glass surfaces are often a clear indicator of overall cleaning quality. Streak-free results require the right product, a clean lint-free cloth, and a technique that does not leave residue — typically working from top to bottom in overlapping strokes, and buffing with a dry cloth to finish.

The Culinary Spaces

Kitchen cleaning in a luxury property is one of the most technically demanding areas, both because of the variety of surfaces involved and because the hygiene standard required is non-negotiable. A kitchen checklist for a high-end property typically goes substantially beyond the scope of a standard domestic clean. Appliance interiors deserve dedicated attention. Ovens accumulate carbonized grease that requires specific degreasers and, often, a soaking period before scrubbing; the approach should be confirmed to be safe for the oven's interior coating. Microwave interiors can be softened effectively with steam before wiping. Fridge drawers and shelves should be removed and washed separately, and the rubber door seals checked carefully — these are a common site for mould growth that is easy to overlook. Where stone countertops are present — as they often are in high-end kitchens — pH-neutral cleaners are needed. Acidic products — including wine, lemon juice, and some household cleaners — can etch polished stone surfaces, potentially permanently. Sealing stone countertops periodically, as recommended by the stone supplier, reduces absorption and makes routine cleaning easier. Cupboard fronts, splashbacks, extractor hoods and their filters, and the underside of upper cabinets accumulate grease and cooking residue over time. A thorough kitchen clean addresses all of these, not just the counter surface and hob. Stainless steel surfaces benefit from a specific stainless cleaner applied in the direction of the grain to avoid streaking. Sinks, taps, and around the drain area are high-contact surfaces that deserve focused sanitisation as part of every clean. Descaling taps and around the base of fittings prevents the build-up of limescale that can stain and is harder to remove the longer it is left.

The Private Quarters

Bedrooms and bathrooms are the spaces guests and owners experience most directly and personally, and the standard of cleaning in these areas is often what forms the strongest impression of overall quality. For bedrooms, the primary focus beyond general cleaning is bed presentation and soft furnishing condition. Beds should be made to a consistent standard with well-pressed, correctly aligned linen. Pillows should be plumped and positioned symmetrically. Decorative cushions and throws should be arranged according to the agreed scheme. Mattresses benefit from periodic rotation according to the manufacturer's guidance, and mattress protectors and pillow protectors should be laundered regularly rather than just the visible linen. Wardrobes and storage areas, if they form part of the agreed scope, should be organized to the owner's preferred system and kept free of dust on shelves and hanging rails. The backs and corners of wardrobe interiors are areas where dust accumulates and spiders may build webs that go unnoticed if the interior is not regularly checked. Bathrooms in a luxury villa typically feature premium fittings and surfaces that require specific care. Polished chrome or brushed nickel taps and shower controls are water-spotted easily and need regular, careful drying after descaling. Shower screens — whether glass or another material — benefit from a squeegee after each use and a thorough clean at each service visit. Natural stone shower floors and walls need the same pH-neutral product caution as stone in other parts of the property. Toilets require sanitisation of all surfaces, including under the rim, the external cistern, and the floor and wall areas around the base. Bathroom accessories — soap dishes, towel rails, mirrors — should be polished to a spot-free finish as part of each clean. Towel presentation, if agreed, should follow a consistent style that meets the owner's preferences.

Outdoor and Pool Areas

Outdoor spaces are often the heart of a Marbella villa's appeal and can be some of the most time-consuming areas to clean well. Terraces attract dust, pollen, organic debris from nearby trees, and bird activity. Pool surrounds deal with the specific challenges of water splash, sunscreen residue, and the biological growth that thrives in warm, wet conditions. Pool tile and waterline cleaning requires specific products appropriate for pool surfaces — standard household cleaners can damage pool finishes or affect water chemistry. The waterline, where products and organic matter tend to accumulate, benefits from regular attention with an appropriate tile cleaner. Pool decking should be checked for algae growth, particularly in shaded or north-facing areas, and treated with a suitable algaecide when needed. Outdoor furniture cleaning is more demanding than it might appear. Cushion covers should be removed and laundered at an appropriate temperature for the fabric. Aluminium or powder-coated frames can be cleaned with mild soap and water; teak furniture may benefit from periodic oiling according to the supplier's recommendation. Umbrellas and awning fabrics accumulate dust and can develop mildew in folds — both warrant attention as part of a thorough outdoor clean.
